General Information:

The Elk Grove Garden Club was established in 1958 with 21 members and started 2017 with 56. There is a long history of giving back to the Community in many ways that have made an important impact.  We have also had fun and educational field trips to expand our knowledge.  There have been many long time friendships made throughout the years in this group.

Giving back to the Community

Through fundraising and material donations, we support a variety of local and state efforts to improve our community and environment including annual donations to the following organizations:

Penny PinesRecognizing the great need to restore areas devastated by fire, the Penny Pines program was established in 1941. Through donations from many organizations, more than 27 million seedlings have been planted, renewing 88,000 acres of national forest land in California.

Elk Grove Food Bank and Food for Families - Both efforts support the needs of citizens in the Elk Grove community. The Elk Grove Food Bank was founded in 1974. Since its inception, it has distributed over 4.5 million meals or approximately 7.5 million pounds of food within the community. Food for Families, sponsored by Raley's Grocery Stores, has raised over $31 million dollars and donated over 21 million pounds of food to food banks in the region with $35,000 worth of groceries going to the Elk Grove area.

Elk Grove Historical Society - The Society was established in 1976 with the goal of preserving the rich past of Elk Grove. They maintain the Elk Grove Historical Park and museum and offer a variety of community events during the year.

Elk Grove Community Garden - Envisioned in 1999 and established in 2006, the Community Garden's volunteers educate the general public about the benefits of gardening, provide families the opportunity to grow healthy food, and teach ecologically sound gardening and landscaping techniques. The garden offers 94 individual raised beds to community members to grow vegetables for themselves and for the Elk Grove Food Bank.

EGGC Scholarship Offer - The Elk Grove Garden Club began a scholarship program in 2015.  The scholarship is open to high school seniors in the Elk Grove Unified School District.  Applicants need a strong interest in gardening and a plan to pursue a college degree in a plant based area.
